EyeVision supports LUCID SWIR Cameras for Advanced Industrial Imaging

Swir Camera

SWIR, or Short-Wave Infrared, refers to a non-visible imaging technique used for various industrial applications. Unlike visible light, SWIR operates in the 900 nm to 1700 nm range, allowing it to penetrate materials and reveal features that are otherwise invisible to standard cameras.

EyeVision software seamlessly processes 16-bit images captured by SWIR cameras, offering a specialized toolset for multispectral imaging. Additionally, its 2D toolset remains fully compatible, enabling users to perform advanced imaging tasks with just a few mouse clicks. Whether it’s distinguishing between different materials like coffee beans and rubber, or inspecting beneath the peel of fruits, EyeVision’s toolset makes configuring and solving applications straightforward and efficient.

Common SWIR applications include

Moisture detection: SWIR can help detect moisture in materials. For example, detecting moisture in fruits such as apples helps identify bruising or spoilage. The higher the moisture content, the darker the SWIR image appears, making sorting and quality control faster and more accurate.

Material differentiation: In industries where distinguishing between materials of similar color is a challenge, SWIR imaging offers a solution. For example, SWIR can differentiate between compounds such as flour, soda, and sugar, which may look identical in the visible spectrum but have different SWIR signatures.

Temperature uniformity: SWIR can detect non-uniform temperatures in objects, making it useful for thermal inspections.

In SWIR imaging, the camera captures grayscale images in various wavelengths, which reflect different material properties. This ability makes SWIR ideal for food sorting, pharmaceutical inspection, plastic recycling, and semiconductor manufacturing, where invisible characteristics like moisture content or material composition are crucial. EyeVision and the Integration of LUCID SWIR Cameras

EyeVision software has now integrated support for the LUCID SWIR cameras, adding significant value to industrial imaging applications. With the powerful yet user-friendly EyeVision platform, implementing SWIR-based inspections has become simpler, even for those with limited machine vision experience. Through drag-and-drop functionality, users can configure multispectral and hyperspectral imaging solutions that combine SWIR with other imaging techniques, such as visible or thermal imaging.

At the upcoming VISION trade fair, we will showcase how easy it is to build multispectral imaging solutions with EyeVision 4.4.
